Initially excited about having an HRM to go with my Nike+, particularly since I stopped wearing a HRM when I started wearing the Sportband. How many watches can one person wear? Crazy, but I like having times/distances more than HR. I'm a bit disappointed that Nike+ is not backwards compatable to previous versions of the Polar WearLink, of which I have two laying dormant. $70 for another WearLink? Not today.

well a bit out dated but i do have the HRM with my 6thGen nano and run with it every time i can and remember. the HRM it self i would describe it like a small one size bra strap with a transmitter attached which is the bulkiest part. when the sweat get rolling you know if the Strap is falling so i always run with it snug. kind of annoying but with working out in a building I.E Gym most equipment detects and reads the Sensor so i can use it to my advantage with out a "Click" to tell me pace and rate. a few notes which will conform some things for you guy/gals

1. sports band or 5th gen nano and newer only
2. it will not work with the pedometer function (only Nike+ fitness workouts)
3. every workout after syncing the Hrm will ask you your Heart rate ranges mine are 135 to 190 currently
3a. even if you do not use the HRM it will ask you if one has been linked
4. the nike+ website has a very basic implementation of the HR data hope to see better here sooner or later. (new to slow geek and running)

overall i think it is an ok system but nike needs to revamp it yet again. the system is missing way to much for the newb like me and missing so much more for the avid runner. i looked into adias as well but don't like that system due to its heavy start up price. i already had an ipod so the Nike+ was the easiest to implement.

looking forward to learning the in-s and outs at slowgeek hope to be of help one day.

Sorry folks, Slowgeek was offline or slightly broken twice in the past couple of days. The first was due to a kernel upgrade issue and the second was due a configuration mistake moving the site behind a new service called CloudFlare. The positive side of this is that the site should now load a bit faster.

Well.. the real benefit of a heart rate monitor (as the name suggests) is to tell you your heart rate while you are actually exercising. i.e. so you can increase or decrease effort as appropriate. A graph of what your heart rate was AFTER the run is interesting, but largely misses the point.

ATJ777 said:
It only works with iPod Nano 5G and Nike+ Sportsband so there may not be many people using it.

However, I have a Garmin device (Forerunner 310XT) with a heartrate monitor. By adding runs to Nike+ via http://awsmithson.com/tcx2nikeplus/ I also get he HR info added to Nike+.

Got to say though, looking at the HR data on Nike+ really doesn't add much All you get is a lumpy graph and a very limited function to see how much of your run was in a particular heart rate range. You don't even get heart rate zones calculated automatically.

You get much more out of the HR data if you transfer it to an app like SportTracks or rubiTrack. But I'd love to see what slowgeek.com could do with combining the data! The graphs on this website are far better than the graphs in any other app or analysis tool.

I don't know if Nike+ Web Heartrate Graphs are as awful as the PaceGraphs. Maybe Mr rlerdorf plans to add this new feature to Slowgeed Web.

That would be useful. I can't speak of the San Francisco region, but in the Sydney region, weather conditions can vary considerably over quite short distances and you need to choose a weather station that is close as possible if you want accurate data.

Additionally, my two main running locations each have 2 local weather stations (i.e. 4 in total) but none of the 4 have data all the time. For runs, both at home and in the office I've had to switch between the local sites to ensure I got data.

Yeah, I do have the backend set up to have per-run weather data correctly and have it stick but I still need to do the frontend. You only have 63 runs, so it won't be much of a job to reset the weather stations for those individual runs, especially if you know it is most of the Wednesday runs. I'll let you know when there is a mechanism for you to set it directly.

OK, now the pace graph shows.

I don't always run at the same location every day. What I have been doing is set the weather station appropriate to the location for the run before I upload the run. Each time, I make sure there is valid data because none of the location stations always have valid data all the time but they did have valid data when I ran. This data has now all gone.

It means I can't have relevant weather data for my runs. On Wednesdays I run at a location that is over 50km away from home and the weather conditions can be quite different.

I ran some scripts to clean up weather stations that didn't provide conditions or reliable data. You must have fallen in that. You set it again now? This one has terrible data:

No data at all for August 19, 2009, for example: Aug.19

But it has some for Sept.25: Sept.25

It only seems to gather weather data about 50% of the time. If this was the weather station you had before, this is why you got caught by the bad weather station hunting script.

I have re-fetched the weather for all your runs using this INSWWEST1 weather station you chose. Let me know if you find a better one and I can do it again.

Also, I see your pace graph nicely here. Shift-reload your page perhaps?

I have added "Pace over time" and "Yearly" distance graphs to the Summary Graphs Tab on the profile page. The yearly graph looks a bit silly for people with a short Nike+ running history, but it looks ok once you have a couple of years worth of runs. Have a look at mine at http://slowgeek.com/pr/rlerdorf and click on the "Summary Graphs" tab.

I set an arbitrary cut-off today of 14 months. If someone hasn't run for the past 14 months, I deleted their data from Slowgeek. That still leaves 70482 accounts. The reason being that it takes forever to check the Nike backend for new runs for 90k users. I do prioritize it, so people who have a Slowgeek password get priority and also accounts whose profiles are being checked regularly get a higher priority. But, I still need to check them all eventually.

Yeah, a shoe tracker would be the most obvious thing for Nike to add. They do after all make money from selling shoes, so why in the world would they not want to remind people when it is timer for a new pair?

I am not sure it would be too much hassle. Just set it up so it assumes you run with one pair, unless you click the "add shoe" button, then it will require a shoe to be selected for each run.

However it would be best if Nike added it to their site like the "how was your run" icons. Just click the Shoe 1 or 2 or 3 etc. icon after you upload. I would think you could then pull that data to slowgeek.

I am actually quite surprised they have not done that yet. They could send you a $5 off coupon for Nike Shoes when you hit 300 miles on your current pair.

Sorry for the long winded reply, new here and really loving all the data. Thanks

A relatively simple solution could be to add an initial value for a shoe that the runner sets for himself. The runner would have to remember the mileage already run with his shoes but that should not be too difficult if you change shoes only for the season. You would of course have to change shoe parameters before you upload the run with different shoes. That would leave every hassle to the runner, so she/he could decide.

Hey, I have a summary graphs feature request. I wanted to send out a link to the summary graphs, but it seems there isn't a static url you can use for that.

Also, I'd like to second the pace over time graph feature request. It would be nice to see month/year graphs of pace changing over time. Maybe something like your split times too, where each run would tell you if it was above or below your total average pace.

Not sure if that makes sense, as a bad data set or calibration could screw things up for a long time...
