My method: unplug the headphone jack, put the player in a ziplock bag, push out the air, zip up the bag, and push the headphone jack through the plastic into the MP3 plug. You have to hold the plastic tight over the hole.

Disclaimer... my MP3 player was only about $40 so I have less to loose. I make no guarantees if you ruin your fancy iPod!

Here in the eastern suburbs of Seattle it rains a lot... while I won't run in heavy rain, not running in the rain at all means generally not running much at all. So, I have an armband that I keep my Nano in that I've set up so that the opening is facing downward. So far (176 miles worth) it has never had an issue with getting wet in the armband. Now wearing it in a iPod pocket or on my waist in a clip would mean it would get wet from sweat. (In fact I've had this problem with my iPhone... My Nano will stay dry in my arm band but the iPhone in a clip on my waste gets wet from the sweat.)

I'm looking at replacing the clip method for the iphone with a small personal items waist pack since I run on a trail a couple times a week and always take my phone with me just in case. Such a pack might work to solve any wetness issues with the iPod.

Mine is an iPod Touch and I don't really want to take the risk of water in the works.

A couple of weeks ago I went for a run in light rain. I turned off spoken feedback, put the iPod in a ziplock bag and then into armband. I held the armband in my left hand for the run so I could see the split times. This actually worked quite well and I ran a PB for the course.

The rain was such that I believe the iPod would have been ruined if I had not bagged it.

I run a marathon this August in constant rain with my nano 3G in armband only. It got wet, but it never stopped working. I think it's more resilient than we think.

I believe the manual upload only works with an iPod Nano. I can't see a way to do it with an iPod Touch 2G.

I've seen people put a sandwich bag over their ipod. I personally just run with my nano in my nike armband and it gets a little wet. I suppose I am tempting fate, but I take it out and wipe it down as soon as I am done - it's not usually much more wet than sweat alone gets it. It hasn't failed on me yet and I've been using it for over 2 years. I also wear the sensor in a marware pouch on top of my shoe and rain hasn't affected it yet. I don't submerge it but it's gotten splashed in puddles. I could be jinxing myself right now and it will all malfunction on Sunday at the NYC Marathon so I should be quiet.

Does anyone here run in the rain with their iPod? If so, how do you protect it from getting wet.

I went for a run today and was not game to take my iPod with me. It means I protect my iPod but I miss out on recording the run - well other than timing with my stopwatch and adding the splits to my spreadsheet.

Can anyone recommend a reliable waterproof armband for an iPod Touch 2G? What about the Nike+ sensor, can it take getting wet?
