combining two runs

For some reason my Nike+ iPod Nano will sometimes end a workout even though I still have miles to go. I reprogram the distance for what I calculate is remaining and start a new workout. I wish I could just go into history and start a workout from where I stopped. Anyway, two questions. 1) Is it a faulty sensor? It always happens when I stop for water, ironically. 2) Can I combine the two workouts into one on Slowgeek using my Mac? (I don't think it can be done in iTunes- I've tried searching all Apple forums).

There is really no clean way to combine runs, even in Slowgeek because I rely pretty heavily on the Nike run files.

Are you pausing the run when you stop for water? If not, you should be. I don't know about the Nano, but with the iPod Touch if there has been no activity from the sensor for a couple of minutes, it stops the workout. If you pause the run, it will stay on paused until you either end the run or "unpause" it.

When I stop for water I do hit pause. When I am ready to resume I hit pause again and the voice says "resuming workout" but within 10 seconds the voice comes on again and says "ending workout" and provides workout stats. I don't do anything unusual except hit the pause key to restart. I tried switching from an armband holder to a waistband holder for my nano b/c I know if you get any water/sweat in the receiver attachment it will end the workout. It has happened with both. Also, I did a 16-mile run and it did it the first time I stopped for water and hit pause but it did not do it the other times I stopped and hit pause.

Are you running again when you hit pause the second time? Are you running at the time it says "ending workout"? It sounds like it's not detecting any activity from the sensor.

A very similar thing happened to me a day or so ago. A little over a week ago I pulled my hamstring during a run. (I'm still not sure how or why as I was 18 minutes into the run and had been running well... anyway...) I'm still struggling to run again. I had been taking it easy for a few days and went for a slow jog on Wednesday. I only got 100 metres into the run when the hamstring went again. I was able to walk, so I kept walking. Another 100 metres later I stopped to stretch my hamstring and didn't hit pause. After stretching for a minute I set off again at walking pace. The next time I hit the home button for a snapshot/split, the feedback said my pace was zero - even though I was walking. Shortly after that I got "Activity stopped" and the workout was over.

I suspect that the short period of inactivity was enough to send the sensor to sleep. I'm not sure if I had pause whether it would have made any difference, but next time I'll try to remember to do that.
