I have added forums, obviously, and a login system that lets you claim your Slowgeek profile. There will be tools coming that let you take more control of your data.

How about altitude plots run concurrently with our pace charts with info taken from Googlemaps for those who have plotted their routes?

I have looked at that a little bit. It gets rather complicated, but it may be possible.

My highest priority one is a way for you to set the location of your run. I currently do that manually on my own runs, but nobody else can right now. I travel constantly, so my runs are all over the place and I like having the correct weather data attached to these runs.

Also, a way to mark an indoor treadmill run, would be good. It's very impressive to see someone running at -20 degrees, except if the run is in a gym while watching the cold out the window, it isn't quite the same thing.

A shoe tracker should be pretty easy to whip up as well.

But, it all hinges on the login/profile claiming mechanism working smoothly for people.

My dream feature would be tools that would let users create more diverse challenges (like Speed x Distance). But as far as I can tell you are pretty much manually coding those weekly challenge pages. It doesn't sound like an easy feature to create. But as an example, it would be incredible if a challenge like the Quad somehow had "live" updates like S x D, instead of just monthly results. But again, from my understanding of how slowgeek works, merging the results from multiple challenges like that seems bafflingly difficult. But then, it seems that you are also wildly more talented at this sort of thing than myself, so I just thought I'd throw the idea out there.

Yes, a flexible challenge management system has been on my todo for a while. Have a look at http://slowgeek.com/todo.php

rlerdorf - The only thing I don't understand is why Nike hasn't hired you yet.

Mostly just testing the forums, but here are new feature's I'd like to see:

While most of the nike site is crap, there are a couple things I like. First, I like being able to see my totals for week/month in graph format. This motivates me more than individual runs to get out there and cover miles.

Second, nike used to have a feature that would compare a run to your fastest run of that length. I don't see it now, so I'm not sure what happened.

Yay! I've always spent more time checking my slowgeek profile than checking in on Nike+. I always felt guilty when it said I ran in 20 degree weather when I was really in the gym and I often feel like I want to correct it when I was running in Tampa not Brooklyn. Glad you thought the same thing. Looking forward to playing around.

The one thing I would like to see that is not on Nike+ is a total for each calendar year. 2006, 2007, 2008 etc.

    Thanks,

Yes, I am actually working on a weekly/montly/yearly summary feature. You should see it show up soon.

    Hi,
Firstly - thanks for the updated features recently. I have always preferred slowgeek to the nike+ site, but its getting even better!
The features I would like to see:
    - the abilty to change the description on runs and not rely on what comes from nike+. I never visit there anymore an so do not add descriptions when uploading runs. I would like to be able to add my own comments on slowgeek so that I can link to things like mapmyrun.
    - A weight tracker for those of us trying to lose a few pounds ?
    - Monthly/weekly charts (already mentioned)
    - an expansion of the shoe tracker? For example, I think its only possible to track the current pair, and not look back historically if you have changed pairs ?

Yes, most of these are on my todo. Not the weight tracker though. Would you want that to be publicly visible? It seems a bit more sensitive than the shoe tracker, so before I can add that I will need to add a "Preferences" screen somewhere so you can set things like the visibility of the weight tracker, metric/imperial, age, timezone, etc.

Fair point....I guess those who want people to see it will use it, and those who do not would not. But yes, a privacy flag would be the 'best' and most flexible option.

I keep checking back to see when I will be able to update my location. It seems like maybe I can change my location (I haven't actually tried yet but I will be traveling soon but maybe the timezone update thing isn't actually the location update thing yet) but is there a "treadmill" option?
No extreme weather today but I'll feel guilty the first time it says that I ran in sub 20 deg. weather when I was inside.

I have been busy with my real job, sorry.

I'll get to it. I work in spurts on this site when I get bored of all the other things I am doing.

Oh, no problem. I just got excited when I thought I saw that it was working and then I realized that I was just making it up with my own wishful thinking. Seriously, this site is so great. I was in love with it even before all the awesome new upgrades. You deserve some sort of medal.

A feature that i would love to see is one where u can compare ur runs, like having two different runs in the same graph, that way u could really compare. Anyway great job on the site, just found it and loving it ! Cheers !

I actually had that feature before, but sort of lost track of it. It shouldn't be very hard to bring back.

Yes, A way to stack/compare/layer multiple runs on one graph would be so very very cool...

How about you add a feature where slowgeek will send you nag emails that say "Hey, jerk-face! It has been $N weeks since you have ran. WTF is wrong with you?"

How about a "Post stats to twitter" option that tweets your most recent run? Could be something like:

    "Ran 6.67 km in 41'58" (6'17/km): http://tinyurl.com/dmlo4a"

Not sure your "jerk-face" feature would go over well. It might be more effective if Slowgeek emailed all your friends and sent out twitter messages making fun of your lack of running. If it just emailed you, you would just filter it out.

Sending out a tweet for your most recent run is interesting. I did consider that before, but I thought it might be a bit noisy. Of course, I run almost every day and you never run, so...

    Hi Rledorf,

    Great work, A+.

Here is something that I think would be neat: A follow up graph for challenges that shows where teams were at a given point in time. That way there is some history added to a challenge. I have added an excel sample graph.

    Cheers,

    Hey rlerdorf,

I have a great idea for a feature for Slowgeek! How about if you were to add a date telling you when a run was synced and include it in the csv file for user's runs. I would love this feature as it would make things so much easier when looking at other's runs and finding out when they were synced. Thanks and great work on the site!!

    rlerdorf:

If you ever get bored, could do another graph to show pace over time? It seems easy at first, but then I'm sure some people have different training paces, so... therein lies the fun...

I suppose you'd have to do some fuzzy logic to try allow "sloppy matches", to allow for different "bands" of run-paces... or maybe even just categorize by paces by distance. Something like, pace history for all your runs under 2 miles, here's the run history for distances at 5k, here's all the 10k, etc.etc... ideally with a nice sloping "trend" line showing you getting faster and faster...

I dunno. Seems like it might be fun.

    Hi rlerdorf -
I've been trying some other sites that grab Nike+ data, but none of them do what I want to do. Slowgeek still has by far the best run graphs and the best personal service So anyway, I know you're a busy guy, but here's what I'm looking for:

I want a way to track activities other than Nike+ miles. Ideally I would like to have it on a calendar so I could easily look and see what days I logged Nike+ miles and what days I was biking, skiing or whatever, but it would be almost as useful (and probably easier to program) if it was just a way to add something to the list of runs. Adding a date and a description would probably be enough. I don't think it would be necessary to add the miles to your total miles because, for example, biking miles are a lot different from running miles. I just want to be able to add something like this to my list of Nike+ runs:

5/17/09 Biked 3.5 miles, Rustler's loop, Fruita CO

This could also be useful for people who have lost runs so they could manually add at least a description of their missing run.

    Thanks,
    UCM

I like the ideas here. Trend graphs for challenges would be fun, but a bit hard. Well not hard, but very database intensive. With close to 6 million runs in the database and some of the challenges quite large, pulling the data for an entire challenge over time would be a killer.

Adding other activities would be interesting as well. I'll play with that idea a bit.
