Runkeeper data would be a nice addition to Slowgeek

So I'm just getting started, both with running and also with Nike+/Slowgeek. I think I'm a lot like Rasmus - I'm a geek looking to use technology to keep my interest in exercise

I have an iPhone 3GS and a pair of Nike+ shoes with sensor. Runkeeper is an iPhone app that uses GPS to provide the same metrics as Nike+, but also is able to map your route and measure elevation changes. Another nice feature of Runkeeper is that you can program interval workouts to your liking (as well as other workout types) and receive voice feedback. I'd have to say Runkeeper is much better than Nike+. The only downside is that GPS relies on line of sight to the sky and so would be utterly useless indoors during wintertime and inclement weather.

So far I've run twice, once with Runkeeper and once using Nike+ and Runkeeper at the same time for comparison. Other than a minor hiccup with the Nike+ workout not starting correctly and missing the beginning of my run, they both performed well.

Because the two systems are separate, the data is separate. I'm not sure if Runkeeper has an API that they would allow to be 'abused' like Nike does, but I'd sure love to have a way to use one or the other method and have either one show up here on slowgeek.

Does anyone (RASMUS) have any experience or ideas with this?

You can see the data from my run this morning here:

EDIT: When I say 'run' I actually mean walk

Your run data for that run is here: http://www.runkeeper.com/chartdata/speed_elev_vs_dist?ajax=true&publicTripId=qQU0o0dedoVaCHAFzhJw

So it is easy enough to get the data, but I don't see a link to a list of your "runs". Is that hidden in there somewhere?

As a logged in user, you can see a list of your activity, but you can only see that by being logged in. The website has settings to automatically post a link like the one I included to twitter, but for the moment there doesn't appear to be a feed or an API.

I've already posted in the forums of Runkeeper about the idea of being able to include the Nike+ data, and pointed them over to your site for inspiration. I have a feeling that they will be reluctant to do any type of integration though - they/he seems to be very much of the opinion that Nike+ doesn't have anything to offer over Runkeeper.

You might download the free version of Runkeeper if you'd like to check out the logged in side of their website, but I think at this point the only way to get at a "list" would be to scrape twitter for tweets containing username + #runkeeper (runkeeper doesn't allow any customizations of the tweets, so they all contain @runkeeper, #runkeeper) http://search.twitter.com/search?q=hopkinsju+%23runkeeper

Scraping Twitter to get a list of runs seems like a rather large hack.

I totally agree. I haven't heard back from the Runkeeper folks. There are several posts about a possible API, but not even a response. They even have a Get Satisfaction site with the same problem.

There is an rss feed for Runkeeper profiles coming "in the not-too-distant future": http://www.runkeeper.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1651
